The Art of Worship

  Maybe the Rain
words and music by Greg Scheer
copyright 1995
CCLI#2046497

This song was written for Bellefield Presbyterian Church's praise team pianist, Jeff Stehle. The lyrics emphasize the fact that the "rain" we experience in our lives may be exactly what is needed for us to grow--an idea which took on new meaning when Jeff was diagnosed with cancer. Though he's in remission, I'd ask that you would say a quick prayer on his behalf when you play this song-just think of it as royalties paid in prayers!

An arrangement for solo voice and piano is published by Augsburg Fortress in With All My Heart, vol. 2.

1a. The desert longs for rain
and the plants raise their hands to the sky.
The deer looks for a stream
in a place that has long been dry.

1b. But every river bed
that was empty can be filled again.
The Lord that brought the drought
can let the floods pour down again.

Chorus
Maybe the rain will bring you to life again.
Maybe the rain will bring you to life again.

2. The shadow of death
spreads throughout the whole valley below.
Let the Lord of life
grow an oasis in you soul.

3. Every thirsty heart;
every spirit that is withered and dry
can only be revived
when it drinks from the river of life.
