This song on Romans 8 could be sung as a coda to my setting of Psalm 3 (same key) or as a stand-alone Scripture song. Though I took quite a bit of liberty with the text, I think it still conveys the spirit of Romans 8.

This is a string orchestra accompaniment for the hymn tune ST THOMAS, using the text “O Bless the Lord, My Soul.” This hymn of praise is appropriate for Thanksgiving Day, building dedications, and pastor installation services. The festive nature of the arrangement will turn a common hymn into a regal anthem.

This arrangement is mentioned in Greg’s podcast, “Thanksgiving Brainstorms.”

Score and parts for violins, viola, cello, double bass, and timpani. Purchase price allows you to print as many copies as you need for your ensemble.

I originally recorded this song as a pop-punk retune of the hymn text by Bessie Porter Head. Naturally, the idea was met with some skepticism. But beneath the hood is a perfectly singable congregational song. You see? Songs are just like people. Sometimes beneath a prickly punk facade is a placid heart of gold.

Based on a hymn text by Philip Doddridge, this tune sounds like it comes from the pages of Southern Harmony while the lyrics remind us that the seemingly insurmountable obstacles we see ahead of us will become occasions for praising God in the future.

The verses of “O Holy Spirit, Come!” are based on “Veni Creator Spiritus,” a chant from the 10th century. I wrote a new translation of the 7 verse Latin text, created new harmonies, and added a refrain. In the end, the song spans some 11 centuries of singing to the Holy Spirit.

This song was featured in a Reformed Worship article (March 2013 No.107, p18) and on the Cardiphonia compilation CD, Pentecost Songs.

This song is an East/West collaboration between Pakistani Eric Sarwar and me. Eric wrote the music based on the shiv ranjni raga and I wrote the text based on Isaiah 11. It is a beautiful statement of longing for God’s promised Kingdom, which at times we can almost taste and other times seems very far off.

Anthem for SATB choir, percussion, and strings. Purchase price allows you to print as many copies as you need for your ensemble.

William Walsham How is best known as the author of “For All the Saints,” but he wrote almost a hundred other hymns, including this one: “O One with God the Father.” It is a powerful Epiphany text that begins with the theme of Colossians 1:15, “The Son is the image of the invisible God.” It continues by focusing on the light of Christ, praying that Christ’s light would dispel the darkness of our lives. This wonderful old text now has a fresh coat of (musical) paint!

William Walsham How is best known as the author of “For All the Saints,” but he wrote almost a hundred other hymns, including “O One with God the Father.” It is a powerful Epiphany text that begins with the theme of Colossians 1:15, “The Son is the image of the invisible God.” Surprisingly few hymns address the oneness of the Father and Son, so it is also appropriate when focusing on the theme “We believe in Jesus Christ his only Son” from the Apostles’ Creed.

This song is loosely based on John Chandler’s text “O Christ, Our Hope, Our Heart’s Desire,” a translation of the Latin hymn, “Jesu, nostra redemption, amor et desiderium.” It explores our dying and rising with Christ–a perfect theme for Easter season.

“O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” is the quintessential Passion hymn. These descants can be played by a variety of treble or bass clef instruments, together or separately, and are also flexible in how they are used within the song. For example, I have used the descants as an extended introduction and brought them back on the final verse of singing. Email me for other transpositions that would be useful in your church.

This hymn makes a great transition between the seasons of Christmas and Epiphany, following Jesus from his birth to his days on earth. This arrangement creates a sense of wonder with a sparkling intro/outro and fresh harmonies. It could also be used with the texts “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” and “We Sing the Mighty Power of God.” The string quartet arrangement available below can also be used for congregational singing and adds lyrical interludes between each verse.
