New Psalms Album

Arise! is the first in a series of Psalm albums that I’ll be releasing in the coming years. Some of these songs are “greatest hits” of the Psalms (23 and 8, for example), but many are neglected Psalms that congregations rarely sing. As a songwriter, I see my role as transplanting these Psalms into modern soil–digging beneath the surface to find the core message or timely insight of a millennia-old text. You can listen to the album at Bandcamp or wherever you stream music. Of course, you can find sheet music for all the songs right here.

Nicene Creed

2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed. One of the “greatest hits” of the creeds, the anniversary is being celebrated throughout the world. If your church plans to join the celebration, I invite you to check out my newly composed Nicene Creed. Both the hymn version and the choral anthem include a congregational refrain.

The Greg Scheer Songbook, 25th Anniversary

I spent the early 90s in Pittsburgh getting my master’s in music composition at Pitt. By day, I studied music theory, musicology, and ethnomusiciology; by night I was a guitar-slinging singer-songwriter and bassist for hire. On Sundays, I attended Bellefield Presbyterian Church–I sang in the choir, played on the praise team, and took part in the college fellowship. Within a few years, my volunteering turned into my first church music position. Those six years leading worship at Bellefield were formative for me. I was blessed with a congregation that was open to new ideas and receptive— even eager— to sing the songs I was writing.

The Greg Scheer Song Book was the culmination of those years–ten songs that had become staples of Bellefield’s worship life. The GSSB began as a spiral-bound collection of leadsheets and piano accompaniments. A few years later, I released a CD of the same songs. And now, 25 years (and three months) later, we’re reissuing the Greg Scheer Songbook in digital form.
