Peace, Perfect Peace (PAX TECUM)$0.00 – $20.00 Select options[embed]https://musicblog.gregscheer.com/peace_perfect_peace-COS2012.mp3[/embed]
There is perhaps no hymn more serenely beautiful than “Peace, Perfect Peace.” Edward Bickersteth’s text doesn’t dismiss the troubles of this world, but instead sees them as an opportunity to hear Jesus’ call to rest in him. George Caldbeck’s melody is simple, yet powerful. This arrangement builds on this beautiful simplicity, growing verse after verse and ending on a note of confidence.
Psalm 104: Oh, Rejoice in All Your Works$0.00 – $35.00 Select options
Wendell Kimbrough’s setting of Psalm 104 won the COS New Psalm Contest in 2014. Since then, I’ve arranged this song for strings, brass, and choir. These arrangements bring out a whole new majestic side to the song.
Psalm 121: Lift Your Eyes Up to the Mountains!$5.00 Select options
This arrangement makes a beautiful Korean setting of Psalm 121 available to English-speaking congregations.
Psalm 125: All Those Who Trust$5.00 – $25.00 Select options
Rubem Amorese and Toninho Zemuner write beautiful congregational songs in their native Portuguese. Their song on Psalm 125, “Proteçao,” is a beautiful testament to the protection that surrounds God’s people.
Psalm 137: By the Babylonian Rivers$5.00 Add to cart
“By the Babylonian Rivers” is one of my favorite songs from Global Songs for Worship and one of my favorite Psalm settings in general. I decided that the line “Lord God, hear your lonely band” fairly demanded an instrumental interlude, so I wrote one.
Download includes piano accompaniment, interlude, SATB harmony, and second verse harmonization.
Psalm 23: The King of Love (ST. COLUMBA)$0.00 – $25.00 Select options[embed]https://musicblog.gregscheer.com/Ps023-the_king_of_love.mp3[/embed]
Hands down, one of my favorite hymns is “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.” I wrote an SSA arrangement of this which found a home in the Augsburg Choirbook for Women. More recently I re-arranged it for SATB choir.
Psalm 31: In You, Lord, I Refuge Take$0.00 – $10.00 Select options
Wendell Kimbrough’s setting of Psalm 31 is simple, but also profound, translating the desperate prayer of the Psalm into fresh language that sings well. I have written an SATB version, a choral descant, and a flute descant.
Psalm 47: Clap Your Hands$0.00 Add to cart
This Yoruban folk song is published as “Psalm 47: Clap Your Hands” in both Global Songs for Worship and Psalms for All Seasons. It is surprisingly simple to sing, which isn’t always the case with African songs and arrangements.
It is also available as an anthem for cantor, choir, flute and percussion published by GIA.
This hymn is a free download. If you sing this song in your church, please report its use to CCLI or OneLicense.
Ready My Heart$0.00 – $5.00 Select options
I first heard “Ready My Heart” on Steve Bell’s CD Each Rare Moment a number of years ago and immediately fell in love with it. Lois Shuford has composed a unique Advent song, a devotional text in which we pray that our hearts would be prepared to cradle the coming Savior. Below is a video of Larry Figueroa and me introducing the song.
Sanna, Sannanina – flute/piccolo descant$5.00 Add to cart
“Sanna, Sannanina” is a delightful South African song that is perfect for joyous Palm Sunday processions. Here I’ve added a flute descant that is almost as rhythmic as the djembe accompaniment. The recording above is an instrumental version with flute and djembe; this descant would also work over the congregation, choir, or praise team singing the song.
Descants for flute/piccolo. Download also includes SATB hymn with both South African and English texts.
Savior of the Nations, Come (Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland) – string orchestra$35.00 Add to cart
This theme and variations for string orchestra was commissioned by Carlos Colón for a 2017 Advent service at Baylor University. The stout hymn tune Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland is stated, then volleyed back and forth between different sections of the string orchestra. It could be used as a stand-alone concert piece or used as a prelude or instrumental selection in a worship setting. It is especially appropriate for Advent and Lessons and Carols services.
Score and orchestral parts for violin 1+2, viola, cello, and bass. Purchase price allows you to print as many copies as you need for your ensemble.
Somos uno en Cristo/We’re One People$1.00 – $5.00 Select options[audio mp3="https://gregscheer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/somos_uno_en_cristo-were_one_people.mp3"][/audio]
This Latin American corito is based on Ephesians 4:4-6, which speaks of the unity of the Body of Christ. With a brand new arrangement and fresh translation, this will quickly become a heart song.
