  • Ah, Holy Jesus (HERZLIEBSTER JESU)

“Ah, Holy Jesus” is perhaps the most poignant and beautiful music reflection on Jesus’ suffering for our sake. This accessible Just Add People! piano accompaniment provides a bit more movement than the traditional hymn setting, retaining the tune’s prayerful character but keeping the hymn moving forward. The arrangement also sounds wonderful with acoustic guitar playing the included chords.

One of my favorite hymn tunes is O WALY WALY, and one of my favorite hymn texts is “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.” This Just Add People arrangement combines them and adds an original refrain. This arrangement could also be used with other texts sung to O WALY WALY, either with or without the refrain.

Piano accompaniment for congregational singing, including original refrain.

“O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” is the quintessential Passion hymn. These descants can be played by a variety of treble or bass clef instruments, together or separately, and are also flexible in how they are used within the song. For example, I have used the descants as an extended introduction and brought them back on the final verse of singing. Email me for other transpositions that would be useful in your church.

This arrangement of THE KING OF GLORY COMES works with the familiar text by Willard F. Jabusch as well as Greg’s Palm Sunday text, “Hosanna in the Highest.” Optional flute descants add to the Klezmer feel of this rhythmic tune.

Arrangements for strings and brass are also available with the alternate text.
