If your choir sings Mozart’s “Ave Verum,” this setting of the same text will provide some variety to your communion services. About the same difficulty level as the Mozart, it features a harp-like piano part, rich choral texture, and two short solos.

Choral Anthem for SATB Choir and Piano (Optional Solo). Purchase price allows you to make as many copies as you need for your choir.

Reginald Heber’s classic communion text comes alive in this stirring musical setting. The simple soprano melody (optional solo) that begins the piece blossoms into a rich choral texture which is supported by the flowing piano accompaniment.

This simple, reflective communion song focuses on the way Jesus feeds our hearts at the table. The congregational version of the song includes a piano part and has the option of three keys with modulations: C, D and F. Though your congregation will pick up the tune in no time, you may want to consider introducing it with the arrangement for SATB Choir and Piano.

PowerPoint slides for congregational singing are available from Digital Songs & Hymns.

This energetic Guatemalan song first appeared in Global Songs for Worship (2010). Since then, I have created various arrangements that allow it to be led authentically in other ways. The piano accompaniment captures the rhythmic energy of the song. The choir, flute, and percussion arrangement is perfect for churches that have a flutist who likes a challenge!

The Nunc Dimmittis, Simeon’s song of praise in Luke, is set to a flowing melody for congregation. What better benediction could there be at the end of a worship service than to join Simeon in saying “Let us depart in peace for our eyes have seen the Savior”?

This hymn makes the perfect bookends for a service: verse one is a call to worship and verse two is a call to service. It is written in four-parts and sounds beautiful sung by a cappella choir.

This hymnis a free download. If you sing this song in your church please report its use to CCLI or OneLicense.

This short, four-part benediction from Philippians 4:7 connects to Psalm 4. It could be used as a coda to my Psalm 4 song “I Rest in You” or sung as a choral benediction at the end of a worship service.

“Sanna, Sannanina” is a delightful South African song that is perfect for joyous Palm Sunday processions. Here I’ve added a flute descant that is almost as rhythmic as the djembe accompaniment. The recording above is an instrumental version with flute and djembe; this descant would also work over the congregation, choir, or praise team singing the song.

Descants for flute/piccolo. Download also includes SATB hymn with both South African and English texts.

Even with just two vocal lines, there is enough musically and emotionally in this setting of Matthew 6:9-13 to stimulate the best church choir, broaden the treble chorus’ repertoire, or challenge the childrens’ choir. It also makes a nice duet.

Anthem for Two-part Choir and Piano (Optional Solo). Purchase price allows you to make as many copies as you need for your choir.

  • Wen Ti (聞笛)/Lift your eyes unto the hills

Wen Ti (The Flute Plays) was written in the 9th century. It describes beautiful bamboo flute music coming from a nearby home; the poet wonders who is playing the lovely tune. The flowing pentatonic melody is used here with new words for various sections of a worship service: call to worship, assurance of pardon, doxology, and benediction.

This arrangement was commissioned for a service at the 2018 Calvin Worship Symposium. You can hear it at the following times in the video:
11:47 Call to Worship: “Lift Your Eyes unto the Hills” (based on Psalm 121 and 124)
21:44 Assurance of Pardon: “God Is Gracious to Forgive” (evoking Colossians 1:12-15)
1:22:56 Doxology “To the One Who’s Shown Us Love” (from Revelation 1:4-6)

Anthem for SATB choir and piano with optional C instrument; includes full score and C instrument part.

“Abana” is sung by Christians throughout the Arabic-speaking world. This haunting, yet vigorous melody beautifully captures the words of the Lord’s Prayer. It can be found in a number of hymnals. For those looking for a more fleshed-out arrangement, my arrangement for piano and strings will support congregational singing well. A choral anthem scored for SATB and piano and can be purchased from GIA Music.
