The title phrase gives the impression of a wide-eyed universalist anthem of feel-good hope. But a deeper look shows a hymn that recognizes both the struggles of life and the hope of faith in Christ. This Just Add People arrangement brings out the lament of the verses with a minor harmonization, switching to a major key when the refrain proclaims confidently: No storm can shake my inmost calm.”

This arrangement is also available with the texts “O Sing a Song of Bethlehem” and “We Sing the Mighty Power of God.” The string quartet arrangement available below can also be used with congregational singing and adds lyrical interludes between each verse.

If you’d like to expand your repertoire of dedication songs beyond the classics “I Surrender All” and “Take My Life and Let It Be” you should give this a try. It’s a short Matt Redman-ish song which reminds us that our lives are a 24/7 sacrifice in response to God’s love.

This was written for Cornerstone University Ministry at the request of Henry Knapp. I chose Psalm 40 because I felt that the image of the feet being placed on solid rock could be appropriately updated to refer to the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone of our faith.

2 Corinthians 13:11 tells us: “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice!” Here’s a rambunctious little ditty to accompany that theme. It fits beautifully alongside such Sunday School classics as “This Is the Day,” “Rejoice in the Lord Always,” and “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy (Down in My Heart).”

In 2007 I fulfilled the lifelong dream of having a college adopt one of my tunes as their school fight song. While my rousing “We Are the Cougars” won Illinois Central College’s fight song contest, my entry for their alma mater tune contest didn’t fare as well. But their loss is your gain. You can replace their “pride of Peoria” text with lyrics of your own!

This is an orphan tune, waiting to be adopted by a text to call its own. If you write your own lyrics for this melody or pair it with an existing text, please let me know how you’ve used it.
