Wendell Kimbrough’s setting of Mary’s Song captures the wonder, fear, and obedience of Mary’s response to Gabriel’s message. The song is a perfect fit for Advent, Christmas, and Lessons and Carols services. The choral arrangement places the choir alongside folk instruments, which is a lovely marriage for those who lead blended worship.

Listen to this new recording of the children’s choir anthem produced by Carey Luce and Carlos Colón:

This short, four-part benediction from Philippians 4:7 connects to Psalm 4. It could be used as a coda to my Psalm 4 song “I Rest in You” or sung as a choral benediction at the end of a worship service.

This hymn is a free download. If you sing this song in your church please report its use to CCLI or OneLicense.

The O Antiphons have been sung for centuries during Advent. Each of the seven Latin verses begins with “O,” and then addresses the coming Savior with a title: “O Wisdom,” “O Root of Jesse,” etc. The O Antiphons are most widely known as the hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”

This new translation and musical setting can be sung as a hymn or can be expanded to a seven-movement service that includes choir, piano, and a small instrumental ensemble. This video shows the latter.

“Sanna, Sannanina” is a delightful South African song that is perfect for joyous Palm Sunday processions. Here I’ve added a flute descant that is almost as rhythmic as the djembe accompaniment. The recording above is an instrumental version with flute and djembe; this descant would also work over the congregation, choir, or praise team singing the song.

Descants for flute/piccolo. Download also includes SATB hymn with both South African and English texts.

A full, festive choir anthem that is easy to learn in one rehearsal. When else can you give your men some solos, let your strings get a little Motown, and include your rhythm section with your choir?

No choir? No problem. The piano and string version can be used to accompany congregational singing.
