I don’t know of any other hymn that so fully explores Joseph’s role as a human father to a heaven-born Savior. Linda notes that this song would fit beautifully with the Matthew 1:18-25 reading in the lectionary on the fourth Sunday of Advent, Year A. And of course, any service exploring Joseph’s part in the Christmas story.

You could say it’s a meditative musical meta-narrative.

Ah, Holy Jesus (HERZLIEBSTER JESU)

This accessible Just Add People! piano accompaniment provides a bit more movement than the traditional hymn setting, retaining the tune’s prayerful character but keeping the hymn moving forward. The arrangement also sounds wonderful with acoustic guitar playing the included chords.

By Blessed Wounds
$0.00 – $25.00 Select options This product has multiple variants. The options may be chosen on the product pagehttps://musicblog.gregscheer.com/wp-content/uploads/moody-blessed_wounds.mp3
Tammy Moody wrote a lovely text about trusting God to be a good father. I like how Tammy approaches the image of God as Father, which is quite out of fashion in some circles. She acknowledges the fear and doubt many of us have in believing we’re children, accepted and loved by a good Heavenly Father.

CHARMING FOURTH
$0.00 Add to cart[audio mp3="https://gregscheer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/charming_fourth.mp3"][/audio]This tune is called CHARMING FOURTH, because I wrote and rejected three other tune drafts before settling on this one; they say the third time’s the charm, but I was hoping for an exception to that rule. I’m also hoping a talented text writer will stumble upon this tune and give it beautiful words that let it soar.
