“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21)
“We Worship You” was first sung at Chuck Rosemeyer’s memorial service, and though it was introduced in this context, it is truly a song of gratitude, thanking God for all of his gifts and recognizing his hand in life, death, and the life to come.

This song is mentioned in Greg’s podcast, “Thanksgiving Brainstorms.”

PowerPoint slides for congregational singing are available from Digital Songs & Hymns.

“What Wondrous Love” is so elusively beautiful that composers will likely never tire of writing new arrangements of it. The hymn is a staple of Lent and Holy Week, but is also fitting for a funeral, as it begins with the story of redemption and ends in eternity.

Choose from a fresh piano accompaniment for congregational singing, or a string quartet arrangement combining the simple honesty of folk guitar with the emotional depth of string orchestra.

This hymn by Isaac Watts about the work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness to salvation is a fitting text for the Pentecost season.

Another collaboration with Tammy Moody. Like many of her songs, this one features vivid images of nature. In this, she takes us through the seasons, ultimately connecting spring’s budding new life to our hope of resurrection in Christ.

“You Are the Resurrection” is an infectious Easter chorus in bossa nova style. It is part of the Red Crearte “Common Song for Easter” project, with composers from all over the world contributing songs.

Feel free to dance along with the Simon, Theo, and me in the video below:

“Abana” is sung by Christians throughout the Arabic-speaking world. This haunting, yet vigorous melody beautifully captures the words of the Lord’s Prayer. It can be found in a number of hymnals. For those looking for a more fleshed-out arrangement, my arrangement for piano and strings will support congregational singing well. A choral anthem scored for SATB and piano and can be purchased from GIA Music.

우리 보좌앞에 모였네 (Vision) is a praise song by Hyung-won Koh based on Revelation 7:9-10. It’s a lovely song, and representative of the tuneful, heartfelt worship songs that the Korean church sings. With the help of James Ju and Paul Han, I translated it into English. Later, I revisited the song, adding a piano accompaniment, instrumental parts, and a smooth-as-butter descant for strings and flute.
