I co-wrote this song with Jaewoo Kim and Lisa Sung. It is a simple song of Christ’s birth, sung in Korean and English. I’m so proud to be associated with Jaewoo, Lisa, and all the fine folk at www.proskuneo.info.

PUER NOBIS is one of the great hymn tunes of the Church and is matched with many texts, including “On Jordan’s Banks the Baptist’s Cry” and “O Splendor of God’s Glory Bright.” (This arrangement is available with either text.) I tried to bring out its folk song flavor with a piano accompaniment that is energetic. I feel like this arrangement brings out the sprightly nature of this tune in a way that often gets lost in the four-part hymnal.

Piano accompaniment for congregational singing, with C instrument descant. Purchase price allows you to make as many copies as you need for your ensemble.

“Filled with the Spirit’s Power” is a fine hymn text in search of the right tune. Traditionally, it has been paired with SHELDONIAN or FARLEY CASTLE. Both of these tunes are good but lack the zip needed to convey the text’s images of power, fire, joy, and wind. My new tune, PHIRE, is a joyous musical match.

This is an orphan tune, waiting to be adopted by a text to call its own. If you write lyrics for this melody or pair it with an existing text, please report its use to CCLI or OneLicense and let me know how you’ve used it.

This text teases out Christological imagery from the Psalm in a way that only Watts can do, making this song perfect for both Christ the King Sunday and the season of Advent.

PowerPoint slides for congregational singing are available from Digital Songs & Hymns.

One doesn’t usually associate jazz with responsorial Psalms. But as you can hear, this song has everything a good responsorial Psalm needs: a quickly learnable refrain, verses that can expand or contract to match the length of the text, and clear harmonic movement to support the chant. Give it a try!

This song interprets the great king of Psalm 21 through a Christological lens. We sing of Christ, the King of kings who sits at God’s right hand with all authority on heaven and earth. The theme of crowning Jesus and celebrating his victory makes this song appropriate for Christ the King or Ascension Sunday.

I first heard “Ready My Heart” on Steve Bell’s CD Each Rare Moment a number of years ago and immediately fell in love with it. Lois Shuford has composed a unique Advent song, a devotional text in which we pray that our hearts would be prepared to cradle the coming Savior. Below is a video of Larry Figueroa and me introducing the song.

“Sanna, Sannanina” is a delightful South African song that is perfect for joyous Palm Sunday processions. Here I’ve added a flute descant that is almost as rhythmic as the djembe accompaniment. The recording above is an instrumental version with flute and djembe; this descant would also work over the congregation, choir, or praise team singing the song.

Descants for flute/piccolo. Download also includes SATB hymn with both South African and English texts.

This theme and variations for string orchestra was commissioned by Carlos Colón for a 2017 Advent service at Baylor University. The stout hymn tune Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland is stated, then volleyed back and forth between different sections of the string orchestra. It could be used as a stand-alone concert piece or used as a prelude or instrumental selection in a worship setting. It is especially appropriate for Advent and Lessons and Carols services.

Score and orchestral parts for violin 1+2, viola, cello, and bass. Purchase price allows you to print as many copies as you need for your ensemble.
